Pre-K and School Aged Speech & Language Screeners
A speech and language screening consists of a 30-minute assessment of your child’s speech (sound production) and language (following directions, answering questions, processing information, naming vocabulary etc.), as well as observing play and social interactions. This allows the therapist to get a baseline of your child’s current speech and language development and the ability to make further recommendations for a full evaluation if needed.
Individual Speech & Language Therapy (In Person Or Virtual)
Speech and language therapy services assist in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of speech and language delays and disorders. In our practice, we work with the individual and their families to improve the individual’s overall communication skills.
What occurs during a speech and language therapy session depends on several factors, such as age and the type of speech and/or language delay/disorder. For children, speech and language therapy is based on play. For older individuals, age-appropriate activities will be utilized.
Group Speech & Language Therapy (In Person Or Virtual)
Group speech and language therapy targets pragmatic language, commonly known as social communication. Pragmatic language refers to verbal and non-verbal rules that dictate our social interactions. Some examples are turn-taking, listening and speaking, using appropriate volume, speed, and intonation, as well as gestures, facial expressions, and eye contact. Group speech and language therapy often mimics the individual’s day-to-day social interactions. Some examples of social settings are school, work, home, or a friend’s house.
Evaluations
Preschool and School Aged Children
For preschool and school-aged children, the evaluation is a two-part process. In the first meeting, a video sample during play and conversation will be taken, as well as a formal assessment. Any pertinent information, such as the case history form, teacher questionnaire, and/or any previous evaluation/treatment reports will be reviewed with the caregiver. A comprehensive written report will be provided outlining findings and recommendations for treatment and is reviewed with the caregiver during a second meeting.
Consultations
Preschool and School Aged Children
A consultation for preschool and school-aged children takes place in one session. Video speech samples, informal observation, and case history information will be gathered. A written report will be provided upon request for an additional fee.
Teens and Older Individuals
A consultation for teens and older individuals takes place in one session. Video speech samples, informal observation, and case history information will be gathered. A written report will be provided upon request for an additional fee.
Caregiver Coaching
Branched Out Therapy, Inc. offers caregiver coaching. During this session, the therapist teaches the caregiver strategies and techniques to support their child’s speech and language development. The therapist does this through the use of educational instruction such as evidence-based practice, demonstrations, discussion, definitions, and/or reading material. If the caregiver wishes for the child to be present, the therapist will model the technique; the parent will then practice the technique with the child and the therapist will provide feedback.
